Appearance: Delirium’s appearance can only be described as “indefinite.”; it often changes depending on her temperament and whim, both of which seem to fluctuate randomly. However, she usually resembles a thin, rather short girl of approximately fourteen. Even in this state, she is not considered ordinary-looking by any stretch of the imagination. Long wavy hair containing every shade of red imaginable (with occasional strands of blond) falls slightly below her shoulders on the left side of her head. On the other side, Delirium’s hair is spiky and cropped closely to her head. She has mismatched eyes – one blue and one green with silver flecks. They are her only physical characteristic to remain permanent through her form-changing, but even they sometimes switch between left and right. Her scent is that of sweat, late nights, sour wine, and old leather. Delirium’s shadow never reflects her current shape and is tangible, like velvet in sensation.

Delirium’s clothes are just as capable of being changed as her physical form. Likewise, she seemingly has no preference as to what she wears. Nevertheless, she does have her own particular style, usually consisting of mismatched clothes and fishnets.

Personality: Delirium’s persona is like that of a child: cheerful and apparently innocent. Sometimes she seems to be oblivious to her surroundings, going off into a world of her own construction. She is very scatterbrained and tends to lose track of the thread of a conversation, speaking about random topics at the most unexpected of times. She also has an inclination towards making peculiar observations that are seemingly inconsequential. Delirium is naturally outgoing and quite affectionate, fully capable of easily making friends were it not for her eccentric behavior. However, she becomes very attached to those she does befriend. She also appears to care about the mortals she considers “hers” – that is, those who are insane. She does not like arrogant people, nor is she fond of causing people to be sad. Delirium has the tendency of turning into butterflies or goldfish every so often.

Abilities/Strengths: As mentioned before, Delirium is able to change her appearance at will and can also manipulate reality. This ability is not limited to only illusions, for she can actually create and alter things to lasting effect. Despite her childish nature, Delirium is really not that innocent. She visits mortals during their worst moments of insanity, and she also appears to know many things her siblings do not. Being the personification of sanity and madness, she can effortlessly induce both in others or remove the latter from their minds. She is nigh-omnipotent and is said to be the only who can walk outside Destiny’s maze-like garden and yet still remain in his realm. Like her other siblings, she possesses some degree of prophetic power. She is capable to pulling herself together for short periods in order to speak with clarity and purpose.

Weapons: None, save for her ability to inflict madness.

Weaknesses: Though Delirium is the embodiment of both madness and sanity, it is very difficult for her to take on the latter aspect. In fact, the effort of being in an ordered state actually causes her pain. This is perhaps an aftereffect of the unknown but traumatic event which caused her to change from her original incarnation as Delight to her current one of Delirium. Her own delirium may also prove a danger to her, as she can retreat so far into it that it becomes impossible for her to leave on her own.

Though she is psychically predictive, her convoluted prophecies are typically understood too late for them to do any good. In the rare occasions they do not, no one recognizes them as prophetic. This instance, when combined with her apparently confusing but more or less accurate words, suggests that Delirium may have trouble expressing herself. In addition, anyone aside from another Endless or her dog Barnabas who touches her will become delirious.

History: Delirium is the youngest of the Endless, but older than existence itself. Born Delight, she changed into Delirium for reasons that even the Endless Destiny does not know. Evidence indicates something traumatizing happened during her time as Delight and she withdrew into a world of her own, thus becoming Delirium. Only she knows what happened, but she seems to have repressed the knowledge. She was once betrothed to someone unknown, but the relationship ended negatively and broke her heart in the process. Her current personality, however, shows no noticeable signs of the incident.

One of Delirium’s siblings was named Destruction. However, he abandoned his post as an Endless hundreds of years ago due to the onset of the Age of Reason, which would result in the invention and use of the atomic bomb. Destruction was unwilling to be responsible for the ruin it would cause and thus left the family. Delirium, who had always held particular affection for this older brother and was generally reliant on her older siblings, attempted to enlist the help of Desire and Despair to aid her search for him, but they refused.

She was able to convince Morpheus, the current incarnation of Dream, to help her. However, he did so reluctantly. Morpheus and Delirium visited many different worlds, looking for Destruction among his old friends (one in particular was Ishtar, the Goddess of Love and War). They managed to find him, but what ended up happening was neither a true reunion nor a heated argument; rather, they basically agreed to disagree. Destruction left Morpheus and Delirium again, but not before loaning his companion indefinitely to Delirium: a dog named Barnabas.

It was then, watching her brother walk away, that Delirium was taken to Econtra.
